Uchu Sanango Dieta with Ayahuasca Retreat
The word “Uchu Sanango” means hot in Quechua, a name inspired by the spicy, warming sensation one may experience while drinking the dieta preparation. Uchu Sanango is a deeply powerful plant ally, revered for its ability to illuminate truth and bring inner clarity. Its medicine works thoroughly, moving through the entire energetic body and mind, cleansing and realigning energies that have become crossed or blocked. It helps to release old patterns of behaviour and thought that no longer serve, guiding us back to the heart — to our truth, our strength, and our integrity. Its influence also extends through the nervous system, bringing both challenge and restoration.
The effects typically begin within about thirty minutes of ingestion and can last for several hours. As it works, Uchu Sanango may evoke gentle visionary experiences, along with purging through vomiting or diarrhoea — the body’s natural way of expelling stagnant energies. These processes are considered an essential part of its cleansing action.
By the following day, you may still sense its presence, sometimes noticing temporary effects on coordination or vision — a natural stage that soon fades. It is also common to feel warmth or heat rising through the body as the medicine moves through the energetic system. Taking cool showers can bring comfort and support the continued purification process.
Discipline and Commitment
To create the ideal energetic environment for the tree spirits to cleanse, teach, and guide you, certain rules must be followed during the dieta and for a period afterwards. These guidelines are not merely recommendations — they are essential for your safety, for receiving the fullest benefits, and for showing respect to the plants and the shaman you are working with.
Undertaking a dieta is a serious commitment. These trees are powerful teachers whose medicine requires dedication, discipline, and integrity. If you feel unable to follow the rules, it is best not to participate, as breaking them may cause adverse effects and disrupt your relationship with the plants.
Dieta Guidelines and Restrictions
During the dieta at the retreat:
- Meals are simple and clean, prepared without salt, sugar, oil, or condiments.
- All medications, including supplements, must be stopped. Exceptions may be made depending on your circumstances. A health questionnaire will be completed before booking, and some medications may be paused or gradually reduced under your doctor’s guidance for the retreat period.
- No cosmetics, soap, toothpaste, or insect repellent. Showers are permitted, but without soap. Teeth may be brushed with water and a brush, and flossed with unflavoured floss.
- No physical contact with others — no hugs, handshakes, or touching, except during healing work by the shaman or assistants.
- No sexual activity of any kind, including masturbation. Sexual energy should be retained and directed inward. Avoid flirting and wear modest clothing.
- No strenuous exercise. Gentle walks within the lodge grounds or light yoga are fine, but no sunbathing.
Continuing the dieta after the retreat (for 30 days):
- No sex or sexual activities (brief, non-sexual gestures such as a kiss on the cheek or a friendly hug are fine).
- No alcohol.
- No other plant medicines.
- No recreational drugs.
- No pork or duck.
- Minimize processed and sugary foods.
- If you normally take medication, it can be resumed after the retreat.
- If you normally take medication, it can be resumed after the retreat.
These restrictions protect the integrity of your connection with the plants, allowing their teachings and healing to continue integrating long after you leave.
