Bobinsana — Calliandra angustifolia spruce, Bubinsana, Bubinzana (bob-in-sana)
The head medicine spirit of this tree is a wise grandfather who carries a spiritual staff of strength and protection. Bobinsana’s essence is used to bring peace and tranquillity by calming the heart and mind. The colour of its energetic medicine is deep pink, reflecting the tree’s vibrant, therapeutic flowers — a colour that is both nurturing and enlivening.
There are times when we need an energetic tonic to smooth out our feelings and emotions, to ease the tension we hold in our physical bodies, and to soften the protective barriers we have built around ourselves. Bobinsana helps to bring a deep sense of calm, allowing the heart and mind to relax. By connecting with the grandfather spirit of this tree, you are reminded that you are safe and protected, enabling you to release tension and rest more fully into yourself. In this more natural state of being — one of openness and connection — the heart can expand. The deep pink energy of this essence nurtures, soothes, and restores emotional balance.
Each essence has been prepared with its own medicine song, an icaro. Icaros are a form of communication between the shaman and the spirit world, used to set the healing intention and to ask the tree for assistance. Each essence is uniquely created by selecting certain qualities of the tree and calling forth its medicine through the icaro.

Bobinsana is a small tree, reaching a maximum height of around 6 metres, and is often found growing along riverbanks. A member of the mimosa family, it is known for its bright pink, fan-shaped flowers, which make it a popular ornamental plant.
The Shipibo-Conibo people prepare a tincture from its bark to treat rheumatic and arthritic conditions, colds, oedema, and uterine disorders. Medicinal baths from the bark are also used to increase physical strength and resistance to illness. The roots are used to treat uterine cancer and to make a tonic renowned for its energising and strengthening effects.
Bobinsana is a sacred teacher plant, valued by shamans for its curative and spiritual properties. It can be used as part of a shamanic dieta or as an admixture to Ayahuasca.
