Description
Cumaceba - Swartzia polyphylla, cumaseba (cu-ma-say-ba)
The energy of Cumaceba is light, playful, and uplifting — a gentle medicine that opens the heart centre, bringing happiness, warmth, and a sense of well-being. Its energetic colour is soft pink, symbolising love and the inner child. This is the colour of tenderness, joy, and innocence.
Stress, emotional shutdown, and the weight of overthinking can pull us away from the very centre of our being — the heart. When we become detached, we may feel separate, fearful, and burdened by life. Yet our heart centre is the place of truth and wisdom, where we feel connected to the whole — the seat of our consciousness and our spiritual home.
Cumaceba invites you to reconnect to the beauty and power of the heart, returning to the gentleness and love that naturally reside within. This tree’s bright, light energy helps dissolve heaviness, restoring joy and emotional openness.
Each essence is prepared with its own icaro — a sacred medicine song sung in communion with the tree. The icaro sets the healing intention and calls forth the plant’s spirit to infuse its medicine into the essence.
Other traditional uses
Cumaceba grows up to 15 metres tall and is usually found in the low jungle. It produces small white flowers. The bark is traditionally macerated in sugar cane alcohol, sometimes with other plants, for the treatment of arthritic pain, joint inflammation, and as an aphrodisiac. It is valued as an antiseptic, for treating yeast infections, colds, female reproductive problems, and as a postpartum tonic. It is also used to restore physical strength, prevent lethargy, and speed recovery from illness.
