Remo Caspi -Aspidosperma excelsum, oar tree (ray-mo kas-pee)
The head medicine spirits of this tree are native warriors — strong and protective. This essence works to move dense negative energies, break loops of negative thinking and cyclic patterns of behaviour, while helping you connect to your personal power and inner strength. The colour of Remo Caspi’s energetic medicine is a deep red, representing the tree’s earthy and grounding nature. This colour is rich, nourishing, and steadying.
There are times when we instinctively know change is needed but feel overwhelmed by the challenge, unsure where to start, or trapped by self-doubt. Fear of the unknown can hold us back, leaving us stuck in repetitive cycles. The native warrior spirit of this tree helps you recognise that the same courage and determination lie within you. Invite these spirits to illuminate your willpower and strength, while cleansing away the dense energies that keep you in patterns of thought or behaviour that no longer serve you.
Each essence has been prepared with its own medicine song, an icaro. Icaros are a form of communication between the shaman and the spirit world, used to set the healing intention and to ask the tree for assistance. Each essence has been uniquely created by calling forth specific qualities of the tree through the icaro.
Other traditional uses
Remo Caspi, meaning “oar tree,” grows up to 40 metres in height. It has large buttresses at the base, ideal for making oars. The hardwood is durable yet buoyant, making it perfect for paddles. The grooves and ridges formed by its buttresses run along the trunk, giving it an ornate quality valued in construction. The Kichwa tribe use the resin from small trees to treat cold sores and herpes, while the Kukama use the bark to treat malaria, drinking a decoction until recovery. The Ocaina grate the bark into poultices for wound healing, and it is also used for respiratory ailments, hepatitis, high blood pressure, cancer, and epilepsy. Its bark is known for its antiseptic properties.
This tree is a sacred teacher plant, used by shamans for its curative and spiritual qualities. It may be used as part of a shamanic dieta or as an admixture to Ayahuasca.
